Is your boiler trying to get your attention

Have you noticed noises coming from your boiler and wondered whether it is trying to get your attention as it sits there banging and rattling away to itself? Well, it could very well be trying to let you know that all is not well with its internal systems.

Rattling noises can be an indication that something has come loose in your system and is shaking and vibrating against another internal part. In time this will cause further damage and so you should consult with your preferred heating engineer as soon as possible. Rattling can also occur when there’s air in your system and you can quickly rectify this by bleeding your radiators so that any air locks can escape. It is important to ensure that you bleed your radiators in the right order so that the airlock can move around the system.

If the noise is more like a banging than as rattling noise this would indicate that your boiler is ‘kettling’. This is when limescale and corrosion cause issues in some of the pipework and the water can not flow as easily through the system. As a result some of the water can become trapped and starts to heat up too much and turns into steam that then expands in the pipes and causes the banging noises. Again left unchecked this can cause further issues to your system so you should have this checked out as soon as possible.
