It’s not always your mobile phone to blame if your TV suffers from constant interference. In fact, there are many factors that can interfere with your TV signal. Here are a few common suspects.

Causes that can be found in your own home

Other mains powered devices can cause interference from within your home. Freeview devices can be affected by variations in electrical current. To identify the cause, you’ll have to turn off all appliances and devices.

Some of the possible causes include:

Vacuum cleaners, tumble dryers, refrigerators and washing machines.

Installing a mains-filter device at the Freeview box’s mains connection could be a solution. Keep aerial connectors and leads as far as possible away from electrical cables.

Other internal interference

It could be caused by well-known devices that cause interference, such as:

Baby monitors, cordless phones, walkie talkies, and mobile phones.

Try to keep this problem at a minimum by placing such devices far away from your satellite and TV equipment.

Outside interference

Included in this is interference from the weather or atmosphere, which can include heavy rains, strong winds and hot temperatures.

In bad weather, the signal of your TV can be affected by moving aerials or trees. Wet leaves falling onto the aerial can also weaken the signal. A better aerial or a higher position can be helpful. When you need TV aerial repair Gloucester, go to steveunettaerials.co.uk/

Outside Induction or Impulse Interference

Sometimes, interference can be caused by external activities like roadworks or a neighbour mowing his lawn. These actions may cause an electrical surge to your satellite or TV box. The following can cause problems:

Pneumatic drilling, lawnmowers and traffic passing by your property.

Replace any cables that may be more susceptible to interference from outside.

Radio interference caused by amateur radios in the vicinity, taxi companies or police radio channels. Fitting an RF or a UHF bandpass filter can help block this type of radio interference.

Interference by large barriers

Physically, large objects can block your signal. The signal can be permanently or temporarily blocked. This type of problem is caused by a number of factors, including the construction of a new structure, the growth and development of trees, or the presence of construction cranes.

If the blockage is temporary, it should be removed when the structure has been removed. If the blockage is permanent, an amplifier will improve reception.
