One of the main problems of the washing machine is the appearance of mold. It is very annoying because the clothes do not fit or have a pleasant aroma, even if you use detergents and softeners with smells of flowers or pine. Also, it is an odor that can spread throughout the house through clothes such as towels placed in the bathroom or from the washing machine itself when there is a lot of molds.

Fortunately, this problem has a solution, although prevention is always the best weapon. It does not occur and accumulates in pipes or in areas that are difficult to access. Each appliance has its own particularity. Here, we are going to focus on how to remove mold from the washer.

Removing mold from the washer is a bit of a lengthy process, but it is easy to do. In addition, the advantage is that you get a good result and end the discomfort it generates. But we go in steps:

  1. The surface cleaning of mold is the first thing you have to do. For this, it is best to take a white cloth, put bleach on it, and then rub the entire interior of the washing machine. Being top-loading, you may find it difficult to get to the bottom a little, so you can help yourself with some stick, broom or feather duster, in which to tie the cloth so that it does not stay inside.
  2. Filling the drum with hot water is the next step you should take. Then add a little bleach. If you do not want to put this product because you are afraid that later the clothes could come out stained, you can use an alternative: white vinegar.
  3. Then, simply wash with hot water and bleach or white vinegar.
  4. When you have finished washing, take the receptacle you have to soften fabrics and put it in the sink or a basin with very hot water and a few drops of liquid soap to wash the dishes. You can also add white vinegar. The receptacle must be well covered. Now you have to wait for about half an hour.
  5. Next, wash the canister with that mixture.

Finally, rinse it with cold water and, above all, dry it very well with a towel or a cloth that soaks a lot, because, if there is water left, it will help the mold to reappear. When it’s dry, please put it back in its place.

With these steps, the washer should now be mold-free and ready to do your laundry again correctly and with no odors left in the laundry or in the home environment.

Although removing mold, as we have seen, is not complicated, it is always better to avoid its appearance. If it has never happened to you. You will think that the washing machine has been damaged. And that the bad smell is the fault of the soaps or softeners you use. It is not like this. At least, not always.

Prevention is also easy because they are simple little gestures to do every day. The most important is that you always leave the lid open after all washes so that the interior dries well and aerates. If there is no moisture, you reduce the chances that mold will appear.

Also, from time to time, you can do laundry without simply adding white vinegar. This will also help you reduce other bad odors that occur and avoid mold in areas that are more difficult to access, such as pipes.

And of course, never leave your laundry inside the washing machine after the wash cycle has finished. It is best to remove them as soon as possible so that the drum can air out and dry. Otherwise, it will favor the appearance of mold both in the washing machine and in the clothes you have washed.

Other tips related to washing machine mold

Apart from the prevention and proper care and maintenance of the washing machine, it is also important that you pay attention to drains and pipes. The problem is often in that area because the water cannot pass well or because there are traces of detergents or softeners, which clog the pipe and cause the water to remain stagnant.

In this way, always watch that the pipes are not blocked and that the water runs out completely after each wash.
