Using a Cricut cutting machine is useful when starting scrapbooking and other artistic activities. However, if you don’t know how sticky the substance has to reapply for the carpet to work properly, your Cricut can be used and forgotten. Simple care can keep your rugs clean and ready for continuous use. Here, I have presented how to clean Cricut mat step by step. Let’s see below:
Steps to clean Cricut mat
Things you need:
- Wipes
- Dishwashing liquid
- Water
- Soft cloth
- Lint Roller
- Spray adhesive
Instructions
- Remove any sticky substances from the Cricut carpet clean with baby wipes. Alcohol lets it dry faster as well.
- Rub the surface of the Cricut rug with a soap dish, warm water and a soft cloth, if you don’t have baby wipes. This may take a little more effort, but it will work.
- Leave the Cricut carpet dry and apply the adhesive spray to the surface.
- Between uses, removing lint and surplus paper remains of Cricut carpet with a fluff roller.
- Repeat the previous steps when the carpet begins to lose its adhesiveness.
Tips and Warnings
These steps should be taken when the Cricut mat begins to lose its adhesiveness. Do not use abrasive brushes or scrubs on the carpet. This will only worsen the plastic over time.
Wash lightly soiled Cricut mats
If your mat is not very dirty, you can use two comfortable spray solutions to make a quick wash if you have little time and … little desire!
If you want to opt for a more natural method, fill a bottle equipped with a spray dispenser with half a glass of water and half a glass of white vinegar. To soften the unpleasant smell of vinegar, add 2 or 3 drops of your favorite balsamic oil: eucalyptus, lemon, lavender, mint or tea tree are perfect.
Spray the solution on the surface of the mat, leave for a few moments and then rinse with a damp microfiber cloth. Repeat the operation on the other side and spread the mat to dry in the open air. If you notice that drying takes more than 10-15 minutes, rub its surface with a dry cloth to remove excess water and speed everything up!
About the same procedure, you can also perform it with a solution of water and liquid dishwashing liquid. Spread it on both sides of the mat with the help of the spray dispenser and a wet sponge, rub well and then rinse with running water in the shower or in the bath to be sure to wash off all the soap. Then dab the mat with a cotton towel or terry cloth and lay it out to dry in the open air.
Wash heavily-soiled Cricut mats
If you haven’t washed your mat in months, you will have to use a more thorough procedure. Immerse it in a solution of lukewarm water and mild detergent for laundry, in the bathtub or in a tub large enough to hold it folded in half on itself. Please, be careful not to spill an excessive amount of soap, or you will no longer be able to eliminate it and your Cricut mat will remain hopelessly slippery!
Rub the soaking mat with a soft sponge and then rinse it with running water. After squeezing it gently – and without twisting it – to completely eliminate the water inside it, spread it on a dry towel and roll both of them – mat and towel – together. Now walk over this nice “cylinder”: the towel will absorb the water that comes out of the mat! You just have to unroll and spread the mat in the open air until it is scorched.
Wash Cricut mats in the washing machine
Are you in a hurry, the next yoga class is near and you really don’t have time to dedicate yourself to one of these cleaning and drying operations, which surely take some time?
Don’t worry. In extreme cases like this, you can always resort to the beloved washing machine. Put your Cricut mat in the basket alone without detergent or fabric softener and start the cycle for delicate items. Let it dry in the open air not in full sun or, if you have a dryer, all the better, start a cycle suitable for delicate. So, it will not be damaged. You can also wash your mat in the washing machine once a month without fear of ruining it!
